Nurse & Patient   This site is devoted to the memory of Middlewood Hospital. After 124 years of service, this former 'lunatic asylum' which provided psychiatric care to many people finally closed in 1996. The hospital was a large scale Victorian institution with many patients experiencing lengthy periods of institutional care to whom it was home to many...it was the introduction of community based care that brought about its demise.   Victorian Nurses
