Pigeon Lane off Howard Street, town centre.
The photo appears to show a yard witch may have been taken from Doncaster Gate
end and the photographer perhaps standing with his back to what was the M&S
delivery yard.
In 1901 Howard St ran from Frederick St up to the junction with Eastwood Lane i.e. the top end of the present market building, from there it became Pigeon Lane as far as Doncaster Gate. Sometime between 1901 & 1922 Pigeon Lane was demolished and became an extension of Howard St.

Howard Street today, from Doncaster Gate.
Many thanks again to Rotherham Family History Society for supplying
the lovely
photos showing our past and for making this project possible.
